Lifelong Learning

I decided a long time ago that I would be a lifelong learner. There are so many things in life that I would like to accomplish. Being a lifelong learner is more than doing, it's an attitude. Be open to learning new things, be willing to change. I believe that to get to where you want to be, you need to change. In order to change, we need to learn something new.

Change is a constant in our lives, that we need to learn new things in order to keep up with all of the changes in the technological world. Knowledge is power. Research shows that the more education and skills a person acquires, their income goes up as well.

I ran across an interesting article, "Are You Working on You?". Harvey Mackay posts interesting statistics in the article:

51 percent of the American population never reads a book more than 400 pages after they complete their formal education.

73 percent of all books in libraries are never checked out.

The average American watches 32 hours of TV every week.
The average American reads only eight hours (books, newspapers, magazines, Yellow Pages, etc.) every week.

More interesting statistics from Mackay:

If you read just one book per month for 12 straight months, you will be in the top 25 percentile of all intellectuals in the world.

I am never without a good book to read, a great audio to listen to and mentors are just a Blackberry Pin away.

"All of the top achievers I know are life-long learners... looking for new skills, insights, and ideas. If they're not learning, they're not growing... not moving toward excellence."

It's About Time!

I can't believe that it has taken me this long to start blogging. I have been online since the beginning of time! It started way back in the early 90's trying to get online with Delphi, Compuserve and bulletin boards. I shop online, I bank online, I catalog my books online, I run an online business, I email my photos to a local shop for printing, our family uses an online homeschool curriculum and the list goes on.

I guess what took me so long to blog was not knowing how to blog, what to title my blog and why I should blog in the first place. If you subscribe to the DISC personality profiles, I am a C. I am the type of person who likes to have all of my "ducks in a row" so to speak before I undertake a new endeavour. I am also an Information Junkie, so keeping my blog focused on one specific topic probably won't happen.

I'm glad I finally took the plunge and look forward to many more blogging adventures!
